Way back in 1980, when rap was in it's infancy (think Blondie and Rapture, Rapper's Delight, etc.) a producer/writer/artist named David Perry invented a character named Little Ray Rapper. He put together 8 songs, 6 of which he wrote, performed most of the instruments himself (except the drums), then slowed down the tape machine (yes, tape, it was 1980) and did all the vocals. Unfortunately, the album was to be released by a label that went bankrupt. 2 of the songs were released by a label in France and the record became a minor dance hit there. Who knows what might have happened had Little Ray been given his moment in the sun.
